As a child, one of our founders, Brandon Sackstein, was always interested in how things worked. He would take apart toys and learn how all the different mechanisms worked. In middle school he joined the FIRST FLL (FIRST Lego League) team at his school. This competition requires students to build and program Lego Mindstorms robots to complete tasks and they compete against other schools. He helped lead this team and eventually he joined the high school team. This competition was FIRST FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). This competition involved building robots that were over 100lbs. Brandon realized that the parts and equipment that just do the bare minimum, it costs teams thousands of dollars. Many teams have sponsors to help but these are hard to come by.
Companies and organizations don't get any benefit for supporting school clubs besides doing a nice gesture. So, Brandon had the help of his father Brian, to found POB Robotics and Engineering, Inc. and get non-profit status. This allows us to provide incentive for companies to support engineering clubs and teams for students all over the world like Brandon's. The lessons he learned in these clubs was invaluable and just aren't taught in the classroom. He wanted to make sure that all students would be able to have the same experience as him without money being a barrier.
